Le vie dell'olio
The olive oil and a panoramic Tuscan experience mixed into the wonderful trip
The olive groves that follow along this path are the true gems of the excursion. This itinerary develops next to the plain of Lucca. Since the beginning we can appreciate majestic artworks such as Nottolini’s aqueduct; we carry on through charming country sideways until one of the most suggestive villages of the entire area is reached: Sant’Andrea di Compito. This is an antique medieval village famous for its pure water fountains, where the “Festa delle Camelie in Fiore” occurs during springtime (Blooming Camellias Festival). At the end of the journey, heading back to Lucca, we cycle by Gherardesca Lake, where a natural oasis can be found, hosting more than 3000 birds: gooses, great crested grebes, coots, herons, egrets… a true paradise for many of these species!
